Verbal and Reasoning Questions and Answers

The reasoning and verbal sections decide who clears the cut-off once everyone has done the maths. Verbal Ability tests grammar, vocabulary and comprehension; Logical and Verbal Reasoning test how you handle series, syllogisms, blood relations, coding-decoding and arrangement puzzles; Non-Verbal Reasoning tests visual pattern recognition. All four are covered here with detailed reasoning for each answer.

Verbal and ReasoningSub-sections & Topics

Verbal Ability

Grammar, vocabulary, sentence correction and comprehension

Open section

Verbal Ability checks whether you can read, write and correct professional English. It is the easiest section to score in — the rules are finite — and the easiest to lose marks in if you rely on "what sounds right". Work through spotting errors, synonyms, antonyms, one-word substitutes and sentence improvement here.

Logical Reasoning

Series, analogies, statements, assumptions, deductions and logical games

Open section

Logical Reasoning asks you to find the rule behind a pattern or to judge whether a conclusion genuinely follows from a statement. It is scoring because no formula memorisation is needed — only a disciplined method. Practise number and letter series, analogies, statement–assumption, statement–conclusion, cause and effect and logical deduction.

Verbal Reasoning

Blood relations, directions, coding-decoding, syllogism, seating arrangement

Open section

Verbal Reasoning is the puzzle half of the reasoning paper — blood relations, direction sense, coding-decoding, syllogism, seating arrangement, data sufficiency, dice and cubes. Banking and SSC papers devote 25–35 marks to these topics alone, and each one has a repeatable solving method you can drill.

Non Verbal Reasoning

Figure series, mirror & water images, paper folding, embedded figures

Open section

Non-Verbal Reasoning replaces words with figures: you spot the pattern in a sequence of shapes, identify a mirror or water image, complete a figure matrix or predict how a folded and cut paper will look when opened. SSC, RRB, NDA, CDS and many bank exams carry a dedicated non-verbal block.
