The global standard for MBA and business-master’s admissions
Graduate Management Admission Test

The GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is the world’s most trusted admissions test for MBA and business-master’s programmes, owned by GMAC (Graduate Management Admission Council). It is accepted by 7,700+ programmes at 2,400+ business schools worldwide, from ISB and IIMs to Harvard, Wharton, INSEAD and LBS.
The current GMAT Focus Edition is shorter and sharper — around 2 hours 15 minutes across three equally weighted sections: Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. It is computer-adaptive, so questions adjust to your ability, and you can review and edit a limited number of answers within each section.
For candidates targeting a top MBA in India or abroad, a strong GMAT score (typically 645+ on the Focus Edition, equivalent to 700+ on the old scale) is a key differentiator for admission and scholarships. Structured coaching in quant strategy, verbal reasoning and data insights can lift scores significantly.

The GMAT Focus Edition total score ranges from 205 to 805 in 10-point increments, with all three sections equally weighted. A score of 645+ is strong; top MBA programmes typically see averages of 680–735. The exam is adaptive, so accuracy on early questions matters.
The GMAT is available year-round, on demand — you choose your date and slot at a test centre or take the GMAT Online from home. Official scores are usually available within 3–5 business days, with an unofficial total shown at the test centre.
The GMAT Focus Edition costs approximately $275–$300 at a test centre in India (the online version has a similar fee). Rescheduling and additional score reports carry extra charges. Confirm current fees on mba.com (GMAC).
GMAT scores are valid for 5 years, giving working professionals flexibility to apply across multiple admission cycles. GMAC keeps up to 10 years of your score history on record.

A total of 645+ is considered strong, and top MBA programmes often average 680–735. Because the scale changed with the Focus Edition, use official percentile charts rather than comparing directly to old 700+ scores.
Most business schools accept both. GMAT is the traditional MBA test and is often preferred for finance/consulting-focused programmes. GRE offers more flexibility if you are also considering non-MBA masters. We help you decide based on your profile.
