What is GST Calculator?

GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a comprehensive indirect tax that replaced multiple taxes like VAT, service tax, and excise duty in India. It was implemented on 1 July 2017. GST has 5 slabs: 0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. Most services fall under 18% GST. CGST and SGST apply to intra-state transactions; IGST applies to inter-state transactions. Understanding GST is important for business owners, freelancers, and consumers.

Formulas

Add GST to a Price (Exclusive → Inclusive)

GST Amount = Original Price × (GST Rate / 100) | Total = Original Price + GST Amount

Where:

Original PricePrice before GST (exclusive of GST)
GST RateApplicable GST rate (5%, 12%, 18%, 28%)

Remove GST from a Price (Inclusive → Exclusive)

Original Price = GST Inclusive Price × 100 / (100 + GST Rate)

Where:

GST Inclusive PricePrice that already includes GST

Worked Example

A software service invoice of ₹50,000 excluding GST at 18%:

1
Base Price (exclusive of GST)₹50,000
2
GST Rate18% (CGST 9% + SGST 9% for intra-state)
3
GST Amount₹50,000 × 18/100 = ₹9,000
4
Total Invoice Amount₹50,000 + ₹9,000 = ₹59,000
5
CGST (9%)₹4,500
6
SGST (9%)₹4,500

Your total invoice amount is ₹59,000. The GST of ₹9,000 is split equally as CGST and SGST for intra-state transactions.
