The gateway to undergraduate admissions in the USA and top global universities
Scholastic Assessment Test

The SAT is a standardised college-admissions test owned and administered by the College Board, used primarily for undergraduate (Bachelor’s) admissions in the United States and increasingly by universities worldwide. It measures the reading, writing and maths skills students need for college success.
The SAT is now fully digital and adaptive — delivered on the Bluebook app on a laptop or tablet. It has two sections, Reading and Writing and Math, and takes about 2 hours 14 minutes. The digital SAT is shorter, uses shorter reading passages, and allows a calculator throughout the Math section.
For Indian students targeting the USA, Canada, UK, Singapore or the UAE for a Bachelor’s degree, a strong SAT score (typically 1400+ out of 1600) strengthens applications and unlocks merit scholarships. With structured coaching, students can substantially raise their score through content mastery and adaptive-test strategy.

Section-wise structure, question types and timing for the SAT.
| Section | What it tests | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| Reading and Writing | Two adaptive modules — short passages testing comprehension, grammar, vocabulary in context and expression of ideas. | 64 min |
| Math | Two adaptive modules — algebra, advanced maths, problem-solving & data analysis, geometry. Calculator allowed throughout. | 70 min |
| Adaptive format | Each section has two modules; performance in Module 1 decides the difficulty of Module 2. | — |
The SAT is scored from 400 to 1600 — the sum of the Reading & Writing section (200–800) and the Math section (200–800). A score of 1200+ is competitive for many universities; 1400–1500+ is strong for top-ranked schools and scholarships. There is no negative marking.
A skill-by-skill breakdown of what the SAT actually tests.
Two adaptive modules covering comprehension of short passages, craft and structure, information and ideas, vocabulary in context, and standard English grammar and expression of ideas.
Two adaptive modules covering Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry. A calculator (built-in Desmos) is allowed throughout.
Each section has two modules; your performance in Module 1 sets the difficulty of Module 2, so early accuracy matters.
What each score means and the level it represents.

| 1200–1390 | Strong | Solid for many good universities abroad and merit-based aid. |
| 1050–1190 | Average | Around the national average — opens a wide range of programmes. |
| 800–1040 | Developing | Usually needs improvement for competitive admissions; focus your prep here. |
