About Fam

Fam, formerly FamPay, builds India's first payments app designed for everyone above the age of eleven. FamApp lets young users make online and offline payments through a UPI ID and a prepaid card, under parental oversight, and it exists because India's financial system historically offered teenagers nothing at all: no account of their own, no way to pay independently, and therefore no way to learn how money works before adulthood. The company's stated ambition is to help millions of young Indians kickstart their financial journey. Building for this audience creates unusual product constraints — the primary user cannot hold a conventional bank account, the paying customer is a parent, and the regulatory framework around minors and prepaid instruments is strict — which makes the product and operations work considerably more interesting than a generic payments app. Fam is based in Bengaluru and operates with small, high-ownership teams. For a product operations intern, the appeal is a consumer fintech product with a genuinely distinctive user base, where operational decisions about onboarding, limits and support are visible in user behaviour almost immediately.

Expert Tips
