Table-based Data Interpretation gives you raw numbers and asks four or five questions from a single dataset. The marks go to whoever calculates least: read the question before scanning the table, approximate wherever the options are far apart, and never compute a value the question does not actually need.

Table Charts— Concepts, Formulas & Shortcuts

  • Read the question first, then extract only the cells you need from the table.
  • Percentage change = (new − old)/old × 100 — always divide by the OLD value.
  • Convert percentages to fractions to speed up division: 12.5% = 1/8, 16⅔% = 1/6.
  • When options are widely spaced, approximate aggressively instead of computing exactly.
  • Check the units in the table header — "in hundreds" or "in lakh" is where most careless errors happen.
  • For "which is highest" questions, compare ratios directly rather than computing every value.
