IELTS Strategy & Practice
IELTS Practice Test Strategy
Practice tests only help if you use them well. This lesson shows how to run mocks under real conditions and turn every mistake into a band gain.
Run mocks like the real thing
- Time yourself strictly and do Listening, Reading and Writing in one sitting.
- Use no dictionary or pauses — replicate exam pressure.
- Mark honestly against the answer key and band descriptors.
- Log every error by type so you can see patterns.
Turn errors into gains
Reviewing is where improvement happens. For each wrong answer, ask why: was it spelling, a distractor, a paraphrase you missed, or a timing issue? Fixing the cause — not just noting the correct answer — is what raises your band.

Timing your final prep
Do frequent short practice early on, then two or three full timed mocks in the final two weeks. Aim to hit your target band comfortably in a mock before test day, giving yourself a safety margin.
