The target
Your funnel conversion
Use your own numbers from last season if you have them. The defaults are a plausible mid-market campus funnel, not a benchmark — every one of them varies enormously by company, campus and role.
to land 25 joiners on 30 May 2027 — that is 82 applications per seat.
Timeline — 23 weeks, starting 20 Dec 2026
- Campus outreach & JD livestarts 20 Dec 2026
Placement-cell outreach, JD published, employer page live so candidates can research you.
- Applications openstarts 3 Jan 2027
You need roughly 2,050 applications. Open early — application volume builds over the first ten days.
- Screening & assessmentstarts 24 Jan 2027
615 screens or assessments. Automate scoring or this stage becomes the bottleneck.
- Interviewsstarts 21 Feb 2027
246 interviews. Block panel calendars before this date, not during.
- Final roundsstarts 28 Mar 2027
123 final-round conversations with the hiring team.
- Offer & acceptance windowstarts 25 Apr 2027
Roll 43 offers to land 25 joiners after acceptance and renege losses.
- Onboarding & documentationstarts 16 May 2027
Offer letters, background checks, joining formalities, equipment and access.
Raising your offer-accept rate from 70% to 80% would cut the applications you need from 2,050 to about 1,767. That is almost always cheaper than sourcing the extra volume.
246 interviews at 45 minutes each is roughly 185 panel hours. Divide by the number of interviewers you can actually get, then check that fits the window above.
Where campus plans usually break
Three failure modes account for most missed campus targets. All three are visible in the timeline above before they happen.
Panel availability
Interviews land in a month when nobody senior is free. This is the one stage you cannot automate away, so book the calendars when you set the timeline — not when the shortlist arrives.
Screening volume
Nobody costed the hours to review nine hundred applications, so the review slips two weeks and your best candidates accept elsewhere. Structure the screen or automate the first cut.
Late headcount sign-off
Approval arrives in October for a June joining date, compressing every stage into a window that cannot hold it. Take the timeline to the budget conversation, not after it.
