Software Development Intern — Bengaluru

About the internship

Our team is hiring a Software Development intern for a 3-month internship based in Bengaluru. This is a working internship on live projects — not a training programme and not shadowing. In your first week you will be shown around the codebase, ship one small change under review, and sit in on a code review of someone else's work. You will have a named mentor, a scoped project, and a review at the midpoint and at the end.

What you will do

  • Ship small, well-scoped features into the production codebase under review
  • Write and maintain unit tests for the code you add
  • Reproduce, diagnose and fix reported bugs
  • Take part in code review — both receiving and reading others’ changes

What success looks like

At least three merged pull requests running in production by the end of the internship. We will tell you at the start exactly what we will be assessing, and you will get written feedback at the midpoint so nothing at the end is a surprise.

What we are looking for

  • B.E./B.Tech, BCA, MCA, B.Sc (CS/IT) or a demonstrable self-taught portfolio. Final-year students and recent graduates are both welcome.
  • Working familiarity with data structures & algorithms
  • Working familiarity with one of Java / Python / C++ / JavaScript
  • Working familiarity with git & version control
  • Working familiarity with debugging and code reading
  • Working familiarity with writing unit tests
  • The ability to ask a clear question when you are stuck, rather than staying stuck

What we offer

  • A stipend of ₹25,000 per month, paid monthly
  • A 3-month internship starting as soon as we find the right person
  • A named mentor and a weekly one-to-one, not an unassigned desk
  • A certificate and a written reference reflecting your actual work
  • Your code reviewed by an engineer, every time — not merged unread
  • A pre-placement offer for interns who meet the bar — this is a real path, not a maybe

Selection process

  • Application review — we read every application and reply either way
  • A 20-minute screening call about your background and what you want from the internship
  • A practical task: a two-hour exercise on a small, realistic codebase: fix one described bug and add a test that would have caught it. It is timeboxed, we will tell you what we are looking for, and someone will read it and give you feedback either way.
  • A final conversation with the team you would be joining
  • Decision and offer within a week of the final round

How to apply

Apply through this listing. Attach your CV and, if you have one, a link to code you have written — a repository, a deployed project, anything real. You do not need one to apply. Our team is an equal-opportunity employer; we assess every application against the same criteria, and we reply to everyone who reaches a screening call.

This is a strong first draft, not a finished document. The responsibilities and success criteria come from a hand-written table for each role, so they are specific rather than filler — but only you know the two or three things about your team that will actually make a candidate choose you. Add those before you post.

Before you post — a four-line check

  • Is the stipend a number rather than "as per company norms"?
  • Does someone reading this know what they would do on a Tuesday?
  • Is the "must have" list five items or fewer?
  • Would you be comfortable if a candidate quoted this JD back to you in week six?

Questions employers ask

What should an internship job description actually contain?+

Seven things, in this order: what the internship is and where it is based; what the intern will actually do day to day; what success looks like by the end; what you are looking for; what you offer, including the stipend as a number; how selection works; and how to apply with a deadline. Most internship JDs that fail do so because they contain only the fourth item — a list of requirements with no description of the work — which tells a candidate nothing about whether they want it.

Why does stating the stipend matter so much?+

Because "as per company norms" reads as "low" to every candidate who has been through this before, and the strongest applicants self-select out before you see them. Listings on our platform that state a stipend as a number consistently draw more applications than equivalent roles that do not, and the applications are better matched because the candidates who could not accept that number never applied. It also saves you the screening call where you both discover the number does not work.

How long should an internship JD be?+

Long enough to answer the candidate's real questions, short enough that they read it. In practice that is 350 to 600 words. Under 200 words there is not enough for a candidate to decide, so you get high-volume, low-intent applications. Over 900 words and the requirements list has usually swallowed the description of the work, which has the same effect from the other direction.

Should we list "requirements" or "nice to have"?+

Both, and mark which is which. Research on job adverts consistently finds that long undifferentiated requirement lists suppress applications from candidates who would have succeeded — the effect is strongest among candidates from less advantaged backgrounds, who read the list literally. For an internship this is self-defeating: you are hiring for potential, so a five-item "must have" list and an explicit "you do not need" line will widen your pool without lowering your bar.

Is this generator AI-powered?+

No, deliberately. It is a deterministic template engine driven by a hand-written table of responsibilities, skills and success criteria for each role. That means it works instantly, never fails on a quota or an outage, and produces the same JD twice for the same inputs. It also means the output is a strong starting draft rather than a finished document — read it, cut what does not apply to you, and add the two or three specifics only you know about the team.

Can we post this JD directly?+

Yes. Copy it, or download it as a text file, and paste it into your listing here or anywhere else. Posting an internship on MyInternships.in is free and takes about a minute once you have the JD ready.

What should we not put in an internship JD?+

Anything referring to marital status, family plans, caste, religion, region or mother tongue; age or date of birth beyond legal eligibility; a demand for "no career gaps"; and unpaid work presented as an opportunity. Also drop "rockstar", "ninja" and "work hard play hard" — they narrow your applicant pool measurably and communicate nothing about the job.

Posting is free. Your listing reaches students and freshers across India within minutes, and you only pay when you want more than the free applications.
