SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) measures your performance in a single semester on a 10-point scale, while CGPA is the average of your SGPAs across all semesters. Converting SGPA to percentage is often needed for internships, job applications, scholarships and higher-study forms that ask for marks in percentage. The most widely accepted conversion, recommended by AICTE, is Percentage = SGPA × 9.5. Some universities instead use (SGPA − 0.75) × 10, so always check which formula your institution follows.
Percentage = SGPA × 9.5Where:

SGPAYour SGPA on a 10-point scaleA student scored an SGPA of 8.2 in one semester. Here is the percentage conversion:
8.2Percentage = SGPA × 9.58.2 × 9.5 = 77.90%(8.2 − 0.75) × 10 = 74.5%✅ An SGPA of 8.2 converts to about 77.9% under the standard AICTE formula.
| SGPA | Percentage (×9.5) | Grade |
|---|---|---|
| 10.0 | 95% | Outstanding (O) |
| 9.0 | 85.5% | Excellent (A+) |
| 8.0 | 76% | Very Good (A) |
| 7.0 | 66.5% | Good (B+) |
| 6.0 | 57% | Average (B) |
| 5.0 | 47.5% | Pass (C) |
Multiply your SGPA by 9.5. For example, an SGPA of 7.8 becomes 7.8 × 9.5 = 74.1%. This AICTE-recommended formula is accepted by most Indian universities and employers.
