Hiring Mobile and Android Interns in India

Mobile is one of the easiest early-career categories to screen, because the artefact is public and installable.

Ask for something installable

A Play Store listing, an APK or a TestFlight build. Unlike web work, mobile output is hard to fake and easy to inspect, which makes this screen unusually efficient.

Lifecycle and state reasoning

The common failure among self-taught mobile candidates is shaky understanding of lifecycle and state management. It surfaces immediately if you ask what happens when the app is backgrounded mid-request.

Cross-platform is a plus, not a substitute

Flutter and React Native candidates are plentiful and useful, but a candidate who has only ever worked cross-platform will struggle with platform-specific work. Be explicit about which you actually need.

Key takeaways

  • Require something installable — mobile output is hard to fake.
  • Probe lifecycle and state handling; it is the common self-taught gap.
  • Decide up front whether you need native or cross-platform, and screen accordingly.

Questions

Kotlin or Java for Android hiring?+

Kotlin is the current default and Compose familiarity is a strong plus. Java-only candidates convert quickly, so it is not a hard filter.

Is iOS hiring harder in India?+

Materially, yes — the pool is smaller, partly because the hardware barrier to learning is higher. Plan for a longer cycle or hire cross-platform and train.
