A Production Engineer runs and improves the line — hitting daily output against constraints of manpower, machine availability and quality, and removing the bottleneck rather than the easy problem.
Indicative Indian market ranges. Metro and specialist roles sit at the upper end.
Ask for an improvement with numbers — output before and after, and what it cost. Candidates who describe initiatives without measurement usually ran activity, not improvement. Also check shift tolerance honestly: production is a rotational-shift job and pretending otherwise causes fast attrition.
Measuring before improving. Many candidates describe changes they made; few can say what the output, scrap or downtime numbers did afterwards.
Useful but not decisive. A certified engineer who has never run a real project is worth less than an uncertified one who has cut changeover time in half.
Honest shift disclosure, functioning canteen and transport, and supervisors who do not humiliate operators. These matter more than small pay differences in plant retention.
Post the vacancy free and reach candidates who are actively looking. Most employers get their first applications within 24 hours.
