What makes this hire hard

Ask for subject results, not just experience. A candidate who can show what happened to their class average, and explain honestly why the bottom quartile struggled, is worth far more than one who lists years. Board-examiner experience is a strong signal because it means they know how marks are actually awarded.

Questions that separate a real candidate from a padded CV

  1. 1What were your board results for the last two batches, and what did you change between them?
  2. 2Which chapters do students lose the most marks on, and how do you teach those differently?
  3. 3Have you evaluated board answer scripts as an examiner?
  4. 4How do you handle a bright student who is coasting?

A realistic Secondary / High School Teacher interview process

  1. 1.Subject-specialist written test at board level
  2. 2.Demo lesson with a senior class
  3. 3.Discussion on result analysis and remediation strategy
  4. 4.Head of Department and Principal round
  5. 5.Reference check with the previous school

Hiring a Secondary / High School Teacher — questions employers ask

What is the difference between TGT and PGT when hiring?

A TGT teaches up to class X and needs graduation plus B.Ed. A PGT teaches XI-XII and needs a Master’s in the subject plus B.Ed. PGT salaries run meaningfully higher because board results at XII carry more weight.

Does board-examiner experience matter?

Yes, more than most schools realise. Teachers who have evaluated board scripts know exactly how marks are awarded and step-marking works, and they teach answer-writing accordingly — which usually shows up in results.

How early should we hire for the new session?

February to April. Senior-subject teachers are the hardest school hires to make mid-session, and a vacancy in a board class from June onwards is very difficult to recover from.
