SBI Clerk 2026 (9,766) — Overview
State Bank of India has invited online applications for Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) posts in the clerical cadre, vide Advertisement No. CRPD/CR/2026-27/17 dated 11 August 2026.
The official vacancy table prints 7,680 regular vacancies (SC 1,114, ST 837, OBC 1,716, EWS 760, GEN 3,253) alongside a backlog block of 287 SC/ST/OBC, 355 PwBD and 1,444 Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen posts, totalling 2,086 — which together give the widely reported figure of 9,766. SBI never prints 9,766 as a single number.
A footnote to the table states the backlog columns are net of the separate Special Recruitment Drive (Advt. CRPD/CR/SPLDRIVE/2026-27/16), so the two notifications do not double-count each other. Candidates eligible for both must apply separately.
Vacancies span 24 State/UT rows. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, Chandigarh UT and Lakshadweep carry no vacancy under this advertisement, although exam centres exist in several of them.
Selection is by Preliminary Examination (screening only), Main Examination (which alone decides the merit list) and a Local Language Proficiency Test. There is no interview.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is SBI Clerk 2026 really 9,766 vacancies?
The official table prints 7,680 regular vacancies and a backlog block of 2,086 (287 SC/ST/OBC + 355 PwBD + 1,444 Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen). 9,766 is the sum of the two blocks — SBI does not print it as a single figure anywhere in the advertisement.
How is this different from the 1,538-vacancy SBI Clerk notification?
That is Advertisement No. CRPD/CR/SPLDRIVE/2026-27/16, a separate Special Recruitment Drive for SC/ST/OBC backlog posts with its own form and a 7–27 August window. Advt. 17 states its backlog columns are net of that drive, so the two do not overlap. Apply separately for each if you are eligible for both.
Is there an interview in SBI Clerk selection?
No. Selection is by Preliminary Examination, Main Examination and the Local Language Proficiency Test only. The Prelims is purely a screening test — the advertisement states that its marks are not added for selection, and only the Mains aggregate decides the merit list.
Why does the Mains have 190 questions but 200 marks?
Because Reasoning Ability & Computer Aptitude carries 60 marks for its 50 questions — 1.2 marks each — while every other section is one mark per question. That is the only split that reconciles 190 questions to 200 marks.
Can I apply for more than one state?
No. You may apply for vacancies in one State/UT only and may appear for the test only once under this recruitment project. If you submit multiple applications only the last valid one is retained and the fee paid on the others is forfeited.
What is the last date to apply for SBI Clerk (Junior Associate)?
The last date to submit the online application is 31 Aug 2026. Apply on sbi.bank.in well before the deadline — government portals are usually overloaded on the final day.
How many vacancies are there in this recruitment?
SBI has notified 9,766 vacancies. The post-wise and category-wise break-up is given in the official notification PDF.
What is the educational qualification required?
Candidates need Graduate from a recognised board or university. Exact subject and percentage requirements per post are listed in the notification.
What is the salary for this post?
₹26,730 – ₹64,480 — Starting basic pay ₹26,730 (₹24,050 plus two advance increments for graduates); total starting emoluments around ₹46,000 per month at a metro such as Mumbai, inclusive of DA and allowances. Allowances such as DA, HRA and TA are payable over and above this as per the applicable rules.
Can candidates from other states apply?
Yes. This is an all-India recruitment and eligible candidates from any state can apply.
How should I prepare for the exam?
Start with the question-type table on this page to see exactly what each section asks, then work through previous-year papers. Bank Clerk — Prelims + Mains rewards consistent practice more than last-minute reading — the recommended books listed above cover the full syllabus.
