The fashion industry is bigger than design
Most students picture a sketchbook when they think of a fashion internship. In practice the sector runs on six or seven functions working to the same seasonal calendar: design and product development, merchandising and buying, sourcing and costing, production and quality, retail and e-commerce, and marketing and analytics.
That is why this hub is filtered by function as well as by category. A commerce student is a strong fit for costing or merchandising; an engineering student for garment technology, horology or quality; a statistics student for retail analytics.
Where the jobs actually are
Head offices and design studios cluster in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Delhi NCR. Manufacturing and export hiring sits in Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Ludhiana, Ahmedabad and Kanpur. Jewellery splits between the Kerala and Tamil Nadu retail chains and the Surat and Mumbai diamond trade, which is also where almost all grading and appraisal work happens.
Pick the city filter that matches where you can actually be for three to six months — a fashion internship is mostly an in-person craft, and the listings say so honestly.
Jewellery, appraisal and the technical route
Jewellery has two distinct career tracks. The creative track runs through hand sketching, Rhino 3D and MatrixGold into design and product development. The technical track runs through gemology — the diamond 4Cs, gem identification, refractometry, spectroscopy — into grading, certification and valuation.
The technical track is the more under-applied of the two and produces a formal, portable qualification. If you are analytical and patient with detail, look at the Appraisal & Grading category first.
How to use this page well
Start with “Fresh this week” — recently posted roles get read, and applications sent in the first few days do far better than ones sent in week three. Then add a stipend floor so you only see roles that cover your costs, and switch the sort to Highest stipend to rank what is left.
Read the company profile on each listing before you apply, and open the official website linked there. A specific, informed first line in your application is the single cheapest advantage you have.
What kinds of fashion internships are listed here?
This hub covers six parts of the fashion and lifestyle economy: clothing and apparel (design, textiles, merchandising, sourcing, retail and e-commerce), jewellery and gems (design, CAD, gemology, retail), gemstone appraisal and certification (diamond grading, valuation, hallmarking), bags and accessories (leather goods, luggage, product development), luxury watches (design, horology, service, boutique retail) and gifting and personalisation (curation, packaging design, corporate gifting).
Do I need a fashion or design degree to apply?
No. Design, textile and gemology courses help for studio and lab roles, but a large share of fashion-industry internships are in merchandising, sourcing, retail operations, supply chain, marketing, analytics, finance and HR — and those are open to commerce, management, engineering and communication students. Each listing states who can apply.
What stipend do fashion internships pay in India?
Most listings here pay between ₹10,000 and ₹32,000 a month. Analytics, engineering and lab roles sit at the higher end; retail-floor and styling roles sit lower. Metro postings typically pay a few thousand more than tier-2 cities for the same role. Use the stipend filter to see only roles above the figure you need.
How do I find only newly posted openings?
Tap “Fresh this week” in the filter bar, or use the “Posted within” dropdown for the last 3, 7, 14 or 30 days. You can combine it with the stipend and city filters, and switch the sort to “Highest stipend” to rank what is left.
Which cities have the most fashion internships?
Bengaluru, Mumbai, Delhi NCR (New Delhi, Gurugram and Noida), Chennai and Kolkata carry the largest share, because the head offices and design studios sit there. Manufacturing and export hubs — Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Ludhiana, Surat and Ahmedabad — hire heavily for production, quality and sourcing roles, and Surat and Mumbai dominate diamond grading and appraisal.
Are these internships verified?
Every company on this page is a real, operating employer in the Indian fashion economy, listed only in cities where it genuinely has an office, studio, plant, laboratory or flagship store, and every listing carries the company’s official website so you can cross-check it. Apply through MyInternships.in and your profile reaches the employer directly.
What is a gemstone appraisal internship?
Appraisal and certification internships sit inside grading laboratories and valuation teams. You learn the diamond 4Cs, gem identification using a refractometer, polariscope and microscope, hallmarking and purity testing under BIS standards, and how a valuation or certificate is documented. It is one of the few fashion-adjacent careers with a formal, transferable technical qualification at the end of it.
